Opening Game of Silverstick!
The U11B team hit the road Sunday morning for their opening game at the 2023-2024 Wingham Regional Silverstick Tournament!!

The boys showed up Sunday morning coming off a hot weekend with their championship fresh in their minds.  They knew it was time to adjust their focus to game one of this prestigious tournament.  Our first game we would face off against the Ary Flames.  Not having ever faced the Flames we knew we would have to come out strong!!

The first period seen strong pressure from both ends. The Steelheads pressured hard which allowed for chances but nothing would find it's way past Liam Wylie-Toal the goaltender for The Flames.  The same would be said for our very own Cooper McClement who once again stood steady and confident in our net!!

During the intermission our coaches do what they do best and settled the boys for the second period.  Shots on the net and keep the pressure on in the opponents end.  Knowing the first goal of the game could very well be the momentum either team needed we never let off the gas.  With the period winding down Ross Schreinert would come up big with the first goal of the game!  This gave the team the added push.  The period would end with the Steelheads taking the 1-0 lead into the final period.

Fifteen minutes is still alot of hockey and the boys took the momentum from having the lead and kept driving the net trying to get the puck into the Flames net.  Their netminder must of felt the pressure as we kept the shots coming. Nixon Reinhart would find the chance and net a goal mid way through the third period.  Not wanting to give up any goals McClement and our defensive core held strong in our end until the end.

The Steelheads come out victorious 2-0 over the Ary Flames!  With his strong defensive play in all three periods, he held that blue line today, Kohen Bosman was award the Player of the Game.  Great job by our coaching staff for once again leading this group of young men!  Having a solid leadership group on and off the ice is extremely beneficial!  Way to open the tournament gentleman, onto Tuesday night were we are back in Wingham for an 8:25pm game with The Mid Huron Huskies!
