Hockey
game…CHECK…blistery snow squalls…CHECK…did we show
up…of course we did!! Canadian hockey at its best!!
We all braved
the weather Tuesday night for Game 2 of our Silverstick Tournament. This would be an important game for the Steelheads
as a win would secure the buy into the semifinals!! The schedule would see us
facing the Mid Huron Huskies. This would
be the third time this season we’ve faced off.
With the Steelheads taking all three games, it was sure the Huskies
would be coming for that win!!
The first
period had the Huskies with lots of pressure, they were hard on our players at
every turn. We pushed back, Gavin
Simpson with some hard digging in front of the Huskie goalie got the puck through
giving us the 1-0 lead after one.
With the
short break between periods we refocused.
Lot’s a battling in both ends during the second period, goal tender Cooper
McClement made some stellar saves to keep our one goal lead.
The fans in
the stands were in for an exciting slightly stressful final period. With only the one goal lead the Steelheads
were determined to add to their lead and bring home a win. It wasn’t until the dying seconds of the game
that defenseman Nixon Brown would skate the puck up and snipe a shot off that
found the back of the net!
Steelheads
WIN! We now wait till Wednesday night to
see who we will face in the semifinals on Saturday. Focus now shifts to our practice’s this week
where the work continues to keep the boys sharp and ready to face their
opponent Saturday at 1:25pm in Wingham.
